Heya guys! With San Diego approaching and a bunch of my money flying away in the hopes that it will boomerang back, I’d like to take a moment to plug my commission journal. I’ve got a bit of extra time, so if anyone would like to grab one it’d be a great time for me.
I’m also offering a special at the moment:
If you’d like a cropped, visual novel-style portrait like those homestuck gals I was doin’, I’m offering those for $25.
I’ll also do sketches in this format for $10
If you’re interested, it would help me out a lot! Just email me at email@example.com if you’d like to grab a slot. All I ask is you have a decent reference of the character if it isn’t an obvious property. Also no nudity D;
1) Matt - PAID - COMPLETE
2) Jessica - PAID
3) DOUBLE JESSICA - PAID
After con season I’ll probably be moving up the prices of my commissions, so now’s a great time to grab one!
No specific question but I'd love to hear more about this Hanako story. :)
First off, for anyone curious, you can see the random Hanako stuff I’ve posted at this tag.
Basically, Hanako (the name of the comic and also the main character) is about a kid on a revenge quest. She has the means to fight, thanks to being possessed by a thunder spirit (Raijuu for mythology buffs), but she’s still just a nine-year old with a personality and fears to match. It’s much more serious than KB, and lotsa people get killed by scary monsters.
The two main things stopping me from working more on it currently (besides, obviously, being busy with KB) are
1) It’s very dependent on the art for mood and emotion and such, which I don’t feel I’m quite good enough for yet. I think I’ve got a handle on certain things, but epic terrifying monsters ain’t one of them. Also
2) It’s very Japanese-based, obviously, which makes me not want to do it until I’ve established myself a bit more with other properties. I’m scared of it being some kind of “oh look, Japanophile doing a comic about Japan” thing. This also requires more research on my part as to not be a hack job. But I tried to consider other mythologies to base the story around and none work quite the same for what I have planned!
It also wouldn’t really work as a webcomic (at least not with single-page updates), which is a problem for someone like me. It’s one property I’d actually prefer to find a publisher for.
But it’s got what I consider to be a solid story that I know the beginning and end of, and I’d love to continue toying with it. :)
Is it really weird that I didn’t draw nipples on Reed? I can always go back and add ‘em.
Honestly I was caught up in trying not to make the muscles ridiculous looking and completely forgot, but people leave ‘em out sometimes anyway, right? Is that not a real thing? Am I just weird about drawing man nipples!?
Anyway, serious question as I work on the next page :< (not that serious)
Has there ever been proof that the whole troll-romance-quadrants thing isn’t just some kind of crazy bullshit made up to encourage trolls to have unhealthy relationships? It seems like any sufficiently close trolls naturally start migrating towards regular humanish forms of love.
People have probably already discussed this but THOSE PEOPLE WERE NOT ME SO WHO CARES
In one of your previous asks, you mentioned LoT. What does that stand for?
Sorry for the super late reply! LoT, or Law of Talos, was an old character comic tournament thing on dA (or OCT if you know about ‘em)
It was one of the first things I really did to mess with the characters of Steffi and Ben, so a lot of dAers still remember them mostly from that contest. (Also because I had a pretty popular opponent for one round.)
Funny story I mentioned on a stream: I get a lot of people at cons who recognize Steffi because they remember her hair from LoT. One girl at A-kon was deaf and had an interpreter with her, so I watched as she looked at Steffi shocked and then turned to her friend to sign out “L… O… T? Ohhh LOT!” and then nodded all excitedly.
